Mirrors made to measure, from vanity walls to home gyms

A mirror that runs exactly from the backsplash to the light, or wall to wall above a double vanity, looks built in because it was measured for the space. The same holds for a basement gym wall or a closet door panel. We connect you with a local glass professional who measures your wall, then cuts, finishes and mounts the mirror. Mirrors are one of several glass services we match.

  • Cut to your wall, not a stock size
  • Polished, bevelled and antique finishes
  • Hung with the right fixings for the wall

Where it fits

Where custom mirrors make sense

Custom sizing earns its keep wherever a stock mirror would leave awkward gaps.

Vanity walls

A mirror cut to the full vanity width, trimmed around outlets and set to clear the faucet and backsplash.

Feature and dining walls

A large mirror opposite a window brings light into a dim room. Antique-finish glass softens the reflection.

Home gyms and dance corners

Floor-to-ceiling panels, butted tight with polished edges, turn a basement room into a practice space.

Own a house in one of Markham's four heritage districts? The City's heritage permit covers exterior alterations, so a mirror inside the house generally falls outside it. Windows are a different matter; see the heritage district guide.

Bathrooms

Bathroom and LED mirrors made to size

A plain bathroom mirror can be cut to almost any rectangle, with notches for a light box or cabinet. Lit and LED mirrors can be ordered to size too; hardwired ones need an electrician to connect them.

Steam is hard on the backing. Dark spots creeping in from the edges, as illustrated above, mean the silver behind the glass is failing; no polish reverses it, so a new mirror with sealed edges is the fix. If the shower glass is being replaced, both can be measured in one visit.

Edge finishes

Edge work: polished, bevelled and more

On a frameless mirror, the edge is the frame, so it's worth choosing deliberately.

Polished edge

A flat, smooth, glossy edge. Clean and modern, and the usual choice for large walls and butted panels.

Bevelled edge

An angled border ground around the face that catches light. It suits a single mirror that stands on its own.

Antique and tinted glass

Mottled, grey or bronze mirror glass for a softer reflection in dining rooms, halls and powder rooms.

Closet doors

Mirrored closet doors: repair or replace

When a mirrored closet door scrapes, slips off its rail or drifts open, the cause is usually worn wheels, a lost floor guide or a door out of adjustment, not the door itself. Those parts are small and often available for older doors.

Replacement makes sense when the mirror is cracked or its backing has blackened, or the frame is bent. A cracked panel should be taped over and kept closed until it's replaced. Many frames can take a new mirror panel; if not, a pro can quote new doors for the same opening.

What affects the quote

What shapes the price of a custom mirror

Mirror quotes are built from the piece and the wall it goes on:

  • Size, and whether it's one piece or several panels
  • Edge finish: polished, bevelled or antique glass
  • Cut-outs for outlets, lights or cabinets
  • Wall type and how it will be fixed
  • Access, such as stairs to a basement gym

Send a wall photo with its width and height, and a pro can reply before visiting.

Hanging it safely

Mounting safely on drywall, tile and concrete

A large mirror is heavy, so adhesive alone isn't enough. On drywall, the pro pairs a backing-safe mirror adhesive with clips or a bottom channel. On tile, holes are drilled carefully for clips or standoffs, and concrete condo walls need masonry anchors. For a gym wall, ask about safety backing that holds broken pieces together.

For businesses

Mirrors for studios, salons and gyms

Studios, salons and barbershops need long, level runs of mirror, often in a leased unit, so check wall fixings with the landlord first. In a condo-owned mall, where each shop unit has its own owner, the management office may have rules too. For glass walls inside the same space, see interior glass partitions.
